Dance in Sabah


Sabah is rich in various cultures. Each community would have their own dance. Among those who have KadazanDusun dance is "Tarian Sumazau".




"TARIAN SUMAZAU"


TARIAN SUMAZAU

Tarian Sumazau is Kadazandusun traditional dance. The dance is usually performed during festivals and ritual rice spirit (Bambaazon).
Dancers perform their dance in pairs. Both male and female dancers began dancing to the rhythm of a gentle and steady gongs. With 'pangkis' of male dancers usually indicate a change in the pattern dances will be performed. 'Pangkis' from this guy dancers will liven up the atmosphere of this dance.
Clothing worn by the dancers are dressed all in black with a yellow gold band. The women wear 'tangkong', 'tinggot', and 'Himpogot'. The male dancers wear 'sigar' in the head. The dance is usually accompanied by gongs or even 'togunggu'.




LILIPUT DANCE


LILIPUT

Liliput is a Bisaya ethnic dance to in Beaufort. Liliput danced in somersaults. The dance is usually performed at the ceremony off evil spirits from a person's body and restore the spirit. It is only to be terminated after the spirit back into her body.









MAGUNATIP DANCE



MAGUNATIP DANCE

Magunatip is the dance of the natives of the interior, including the Kadazandusun of Tambunan, Keningau Murut Kwijau orchard several groups. Magunatip derived from the word "ATIP which means' to press between two surfaces. Dancer Magunatip have great skill and agility to dance between bamboo poles. It is a dance performed during certain ceremonies to honor guests.
